Revolver™ allows selection of the windows to be included in the rotation and the duration for each window to be displayed. These options allow customization at runtime of what to show and how long to show it. The option settings can be saved from one run to another.
Using Revolver™
This section describes how to start the Revolver™ program, how to select which windows become part of the rotation, how to set options for how long each window is shown, how to begin the rotation of windows, how to stop the rotation of windows, and how to exit the Revolver™ program.
Starting Revolver™
Locate the folder in which Revolver™ was installed and double click the Revolver™ icon. A shortcut created during installation can be used as well.
The program will start with a list of windows that are candidates to be rotated. If the list is empty, check to make sure there are applications in the taskbar and that those applications are not minimized if the Exclude Minimized Windows option is checked.
Selecting Windows For Rotation
Since Revolver™ provides a list of candidates, selecting windows for rotation is a process of excluding unwanted windows from the list. There are three ways to exclude or remove entries that should not be part of the rotation from the Windows To Rotate list. The first method is to remove the check mark next to an entry in the Windows To Rotate list. The second method is to use the Exclude Window Classes list to exclude all windows of a particular class. The third method is to check the Exclude Minimized Windows option to eliminate any minimized windows from the rotation sequence.
If minimized windows are part of the rotation sequence, they will be restored the first time they are accessed during the rotation and shown each time thereafter. Revolver™ does not track which windows were minimized, so if any windows need to be minimized after Revolver™ stops, they will have to be minimized manually.
Be aware that windows which are created while Revolver™ is rotating windows will become part of the rotation sequence automatically if the Include New Windows Automatically option is checked. To prevent this from happening, uncheck the Include New Windows Automatically option, don't start the application, check the Exclude Minimized Windows option and minimize the application immediately after starting it, or exclude its class by placing an entry in the Exclude Window Classes list. Windows which close while Revolver™ is running are dropped from the rotation automatically. Windows that become minimized while Revolver™ is running will be removed from the rotation sequence if the Exclude Minimized Windows option is checked.
Excluding All Windows of a Class
An entire class of windows may be excluded by entering the name of the class in the Exclude Window Classes list. Exclusion of an entire window class is typically used to eliminate file explorer windows or help screens from the rotation.
To exclude all windows in a class from the rotation sequence, do the following:
Note! Be sure to use the exact capitalization as shown in the Windows list because the comparison done on class names is case sensitive.
To remove an entry from the Exclude Window Classes list, do the following:
The list of selected windows will change as classes and check marks are added or removed.
Setting Options
Options may be set that control which windows become part of the rotation and how long each window is shown. Each of these options - Exclude Minimized Windows, Include New Windows Automatically, and display duration - are described below.
Excluding Minimized Windows
To exclude all minimized windows from the rotation, set the check box of the Exclude Minimized Windows option. If you want to include minimized windows in the rotation, clear the check box. If a window is minimized when it comes up in the rotation, it will be restored and shown. Keeping this option checked is recommended and allows easy removal of windows from the rotation by minimizing them.
Including New Windows Automatically
Revolver™, by default, will automatically add windows to the rotation sequence that are created while Revolver™ is running. To prevent automatically adding windows to the sequence, clear the Include New Windows Automatically option.
Setting Display Duration
To select how long each window is shown, do either of the following:
Saving Option Settings
To save the settings for the next time Revolver™ is run, click the Save Settings For Next Time button. This will save the Exclude Window Classes list, the Exclude Minimized Windows option, the Include New Windows Automatically option, and the number of seconds each window should be shown. Theses items are stored in a file named "Revolver.ini" located in the same folder as the Revolver™ program for Personal Edition and the application data folder for Site and Enterprise Editions.
Starting Rotation
To start the rotation of windows, click the Begin Rotation button after the window list is set as desired. Revolver™ will minimize itself to the system tray and begin rotation of the selected windows from the task bar. Each screen will appear for the duration of time selected by the Show each window for XX seconds option.
Any windows that are created while Revolver™ is active will automatically be added to the rotation unless they are excluded because the Include New Windows Automatically option is checked, they are minimized and the Exclude Minimized Windows option is checked, or they are of a class that is checked in the Exclude Window Classes list.
Any windows that are closed while Revolver™ is active will automatically be dropped from the rotation at the end of a time slice. If a window is closed while it's being shown, the next window shown is unpredictable and may not be one of the eligible windows. The following window shown will be one of the windows in the Windows to Rotate list.
Stopping Rotation
To stop the rotation, do one of the following:
If Revolver™ is to be terminated, click the Exit Revolver button. If the rotation should be continued after adjustments to the Windows To Rotate list, click the Begin Rotation button to continue.
Although the Windows to Rotate list will update itself periodically, no rotation of windows will occur while the Revolver™ main window is shown. If Revolver™ is not rotating windows as expected and the Revolver™ window is not visible, left click the Revolver™ tray icon to bring Revolver™ to the foreground and then click the Begin Rotation button to start the rotation again.
Exiting Revolver™
To exit Revolver™, do the following:
Installing Revolver™
Revolver™ comes in a zip file containing the program and this help file. To install Revolver™, do the following:
Optionally, one or more shortcuts could be created for the Desktop and Start menu to simplify the launch of Revolver™. A shortcut to Revolver™ can be placed on the Desktop by clicking the Create Desktop Shortcut button. If a shortcut for Revolver™ already exists, it will be replaced.
Revolver™ does not write to the registry for any reason. The only other file that may be created by Revolver™ is a 'Revolver.ini' file in the folder where the program resides for the Personal Edition or the application data folder for the Site and Enterprise Editions. This file contains the settings that are saved from run to run if the Save Settings For Next Time button is clicked.
